“I was looking forward to/see where I was going/but I don’t know if I can make it/think I’m gonna try in Hollywood” these are the first optimistic lines of the haunting, autobiographical tale of Canada’s youngest troubadour, Tobias Jesso Jr.

Driven by a bold, slow piano progression, this hair-raising ballad sees Jesso tell the struggling story of his artistic endeavours which harkens to the early days of Tom Waits’ honest and intimate tellings.

‘Hollywood’ reaches it’s epic close as Jesso bows in sullen defeat, repeatedly weeping “I think I’m gonna die in Hollywood”  as the track is sonically engulfed in a murky LA-industrial skyline of melting brass and cold, piercing keys.
