Known for their energetic performances and flamboyant Harajuku-style fashion, Tokyo four-piece Broken Doll are a 1980s-inspired Japanese punk-rock band with an ever-growing following as street fashion icons, influenced by their unique marriage of music and fashion.

The band are making their first ever trip to Australia, and are touted to charm punters their infectious blend of J-Pop-Punk, ’80s hair-metal and glam rock. We’re pretty damn excited for such a unique act to hit our shores, and felt it necessary to give y’all a bit of an education as to why you should check out a Japanese band that you’ve probably never heard of before.

This Is Broken Doll’s Debut In Australia

Aussies love live music, no question, so why not support an international act on their maiden voyage to our fair nation?

The band have just dropped their special Australua EP, and itching to play their brand-spanking new tunes to fresh ears.

Broken Doll Are Killer Live

Despite this being the band’s first show in Australia, they’ve made waves in their native Japan and internationally too.

Our Tone Deaf writer witnessed the band at Hyper Japan in London, recounting that no other performer that day electrified the audience into a frenzy like Broken Doll.

It’s A Fashion Show Too!

Broken Doll may put on a killer live show sonically, but visually, they are an experience like no other. Decked out in intricate Harajuku outfits that resemble the busy streetware of Tokyo, Broken Doll’s visual aesthetic is incredible.

The flamboyant costumes have been designed by the band, who actually are designers with their own store in Tokyo too.

…And You Can Buy Their Amazing Clothes

Yep, you read correctly, these fashion professionals will also have in tow their pop-up store, ensuring that any fan can purchase from their wide variety of clothes and accessories.

Check-out their website and Facebook and start your Japanese street-style ensemble.

Fan Of Glam Rock? You’ll Dig Broken Doll

With a name so very similar to the proto-punk proto-glam icons New York Dolls, it should arrive as no surprise that these guys perform twisted covers of glam rock anthems.

Dig this live vid of the band smashing out Poison’s ‘Nothing But A Good Time’, the positive spirit of the catchy ’80s hit is well and truly alive in the band.

Experience J-Punk In All Its Glory

The insane world of J-Pop and J-Punk are unlike any other phenomena in the world. Creating a whirlwind of over the top hair, detailed make-up, outrageous clothing and most importantly, killer live music, this is a rare opportunity to see Japanese musical culture up close and personal.

If the glitz and glamour is knocking on your door, why wouldn’t you want to be a part of it?
