One of the most trusted brands in Australian independent music, Inertia, have announced the launch of their brand new imprint, Midnight Feature. The minds behind Inertia’s latest project aren’t wasting any time with establishing a foothold right on “the exhilarating edges of the Australian pop spectrum” and have already announced their first signing, Perth’s Kučka (pron. Coo-ch-ka).

Based out of Sydney, Midnight Feature will be spearheaded by Inertia alumnus Mark Dodds as the imprint’s Head Of A&R. He will be joined by Inertia native Amelia Jenner. Together they will be helming the latest addition to the Inertia Group, which includes label-services company Inertia, touring company Handsome Tours, and screen licensing company Gaga.

“Every day I hear Australian music which inspires and challenges me – songs recorded around the block with the capacity to resonate around the world,” Dodds told The Music Network.

“Since pop knows no boundaries, neither should our approach to discovering, cultivating and marketing the country’s burgeoning talent. Midnight Feature is born of our desire to work more closely and creatively with artists that excite and provoke us – to give them a global platform worthy of their talents.”

The label’s maiden release will be Kučka’s ‘Divinity’, a single set for release next Tuesday, 25th November, which comes ahead of an EP slated for release in early 2015. Readers can check out ‘Divinity’ below. The track was co-produced by James Ireland, best known for his involvement with Hamjam and The Chemist.

Earlier this year, Kučka, real name Laura Jane Lowther, won Triple J Unearthed’s CoLAB Festival competition, signed to booker Harbour Agency, and won three West Australian Music Awards for Best Single, Best Electronic Act, and Best Experimental Act. Her vocals were also sampled on A$AP Rocky’s highly successful 2012 LP, Long Live A$AP, on the track Fashion Killa.

Kučka will celebrate the release of the single with a performance at Sydney’s Vic On The Park Hotel during the Inertia ARIA Week Showcase, which she will follow up with a hometown performance during the CoLAB Festival alongside Hermitude, The Kite String Tangle, The Jungle Giants, and more.
