Attention all Kurt Cobain and Nirvana fanatics, the official documentary on the late and very great iconic grunge musician that we’ve all been begging has finally been given the green light, and it will feature never seen or heard before footage of the frontman, including music and art.

The new documentary is entitled Montage Of Heck, which interestingly is the same name as a mixtape created by Cobain in 1988 that recently surfaced on the internet, and is set to air on US cable channel HBO sometime next year, as Pitchfork reports.

Taking reigns of the incredibly exciting and equally daunting project is filmmaker Brett Morgen, who will be joined (unbelievably) by Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter, Frances Bean, who has been signed on as an executive producer.

According to its press release, Montage Of Heck will feature “dozens of Nirvana songs and performances as well as perviously unheard Cobain originals,” as well a “no-holds-barred access to Kurt Cobain’s archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives, family archives and songbooks.”

On the creation of the upcoming piece, Morgen commented, “I started work on this project eight years ago. Like most people, when I started, I figured there would be limited amounts of fresh material to unearth. However, once I stepped into Kurt’s archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media.”

Before you roll your eyes in frustration that this is yet another barely informative yet majorly repetitive production of the tortured artist that reeks of inauthenticity, the press release for the film has revealed that this is the “official authorised” documentary on Cobain, which has seen a strong active participation from his family in its making.

Spiking further interest, there has been mention as to whether Courtney Love has had anything to do with the film, who once again fell under the spotlight earlier this year when a “nasty” note aimed at Love was found in Cobain’s wallet at the scene of his death, as well as a Cobain mockumentary “suggested” she played a dirty hand in his tragic passing.

There is no official release date or trailer yet, but with 2015 only around the corner, we’ll hopefully be celebrating the life of this iconic human through the eyes of his family soon.
