Fancy yourself a bit of a guitar nerd? Got a little collection happening? Maybe you even have a few prized items in there, like an axe signed by a famous musician? Well, prepare to weep, because the most insane collection of guitars in Australia is on sale and we’re almost certain you can’t afford it.

“Guitars are not only musical instruments. They are in a sense living artworks, created by talented people who can understand the science of how to make them both musically entrancing and aesthetically beautiful to hold and admire,” writes former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.

And he’s not wrong about the “living artworks” part, because this collection, which is currently being offered by Australian music retailer Allans Billy Hyde, is worth about as much as any Picasso painting. Featuring numerous limited edition, signed and numbered pieces, ‘The Vault’ is worth $1.5 million.

“The Vault represents a collection of instruments that not only have all the ‘wow’ and ‘cool’ factors, but are a major part of our cultural history of Rock N Roll. Everyone reacts subconsciously to the guitars played by the icons of rock music,” Kulick adds.

Again, Kulick’s on a role, because this incredible cache of instruments will make even a musical layman’s eyes bulge. The collection comprises 50 guitars, which can only be sold together, so don’t think you can get your hands on that limited edition Gibson Robot Les Paul (first production run) if you save your pennies.

Besides that beautiful baby, which features novel robotic technology never to be featured again in a Les Paul, the Vault’s catalog kicks off with a ridiculous Gibson SJ-20 Pirate.

Hand-crafted by master luthier Ren Ferguson, it includes a headstock shaped like a pirate ship, coin-shaped fretboard markers made of 22-karat gold, and an actual treasure chest inside the sound hole that we’re assured is “resplendent with jewels and gold coins”.

And when you’re not forbidding anyone from even breathing on that, you’ll be polishing an individual plexiglass case housing a Jimmy Page signature double guitar, or an aged Les Paul signed by Eric Clapton, or an Epiphone Texan painstakingly recreated to look like the one Paul McCartney wrote ‘Yesterday’ on… oh, and signed by Macca himself.

At AUD $1.5 million, the sellers are stressing that this ridiculously awesome collection is to be sold “complete and will not be separated”.
