With 2014 well and truly winding up, we’ve taken a look at what a mega year Aussie musicians have had, and two stars burning bright and indie-pop outfit The Preatures and garage-psych lads, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

Looking first at The Preatures, this week has seen New York City’s music industry bible CMJ announce the band are the “most added” group to college radio with their mega track ‘Somebody’s Talking‘, as well as scoring a front-cover position on the company’s website, as The Music points out.

It’s been an insane year for the quintet, having dropped their stellar debut record Blue Planet Eyes which received widespread acclaim. The Preatures are currently on their massive national tour in promotion of their beautiful album, performing in front of their largest solo crowds to date. Our own Tone Deaf writer was stunned by their set in Melbourne writing, “the way Manfredi sings live is really something else, and of course, lets not forget that The Preatures supported the one and only Rolling Stones on their Australian tour.

There’s been plenty of talk that “The Preatures are Australia’s next rock n roll export“, and by merely examining this shortlist, it’s safe to say they most certainly are.

The psychedelic sandstorm that are King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard landed themselves #10 position on CMK’s Radio 200 Top 20 for the week, rising high above their previous position of #28 for their latest release, I’m In Your Mind Fuzz

The year of 2014 has been a raging success for the lads, having blitzed their debut tour of the US (clearly gaining some fans along their way) as well as selling-out countless gigs in Australia. There’s a reason why they’ve been touted as one of the most prolific groups in the industry right now.

Whilst The Preatures and King Gizz have smashed it this year, there too are many more Aussie artists that have left a cataclysmic mark on 2014.

Taking a look first at our leading ladies, Iggy Azalea smashed records in the US Billboard 200, landing herself in both #1 and #2 positions, whilst Sia too landed a #1 position with her incredible 1000 Forms Of Fear. Love ’em or hate ’em, our young pop-punksters 5 Seconds Of Summer sold half a million records in just a few months, not to mention the Aussie invasion of UK, US and European music festivals and of course, the major win of independent artists at the ARIAs this week.

With such a rouse of success from so many Aussie musicians this year, we cannot wait to see what 2015 has in store.
