Popular music app Shazam have released their annual data roundup, including their most Shazamed artists of the year, most Shazamaed songs, and their predictions for the artists who’ll be dominating your iTunes and Spotify playlists in the new year.

If you’re still playing catch-up, the makers of the ubiquitous music identification app record tons of data on the world’s collective music preferences and are able to use it to gauge the most popular artists of today and even make predictions about which artists will be blowing up in 2014 based on the number of identifications an artist accrues.

They have a rather substantial dataset to work from, too. With over 400 million global users making over 15 million song identifications every day, even major labels have now begun looking at Shazam data to try and predict where the next big hit will be coming from and even to chart tours.

Shazam’s newly released stats highlight the Top Ten Most Shazamed Artists of 2014 Worldwide and the Top Ten Most Shazamed Songs of 2014 Worldwide, with Swedish EDM megastar Avicii and Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne’s ‘Rather Be’ taking out the top spots, respectively.

Meanwhile, streaming giant Spotify also recently unveiled their own annual statistics breakdown, with Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’ taking out the top track spot and Ed Sheeran beating out Eminem, Coldplay, Calvin Harris, and Katy Perry to claim the Top Global Artist spot.

Readers can check out Shazam’s list of predictions for 2015 below, which includes three entries from BBC’s recent Sound of 2015 list – English pop rockers Years & Years, singer-songwriter James Bay, who’s already being touted as the next Ed Sheeran, and an honourable mention for Atlanta native Raury.

Just how accurate are Shazam’s lists? Well, back in 2012, they listed rapper A$AP Rocky and singer Lana Del Rey as their top up-and-comers. As for their 2014 predictions, we’re willing to bet Banks, Action Bronson, Jhené Aiko, Martin Garrix, Sam Smith, and Vance Joy made into your playlists these past 12 months.
