While the artists that just came out at the top of Spotify’s recently unveiled list of the most streamed Australian acts won’t surprise anyone, it certainly bodes well for the health of music in Australia, with ARIA winners Chet Faker and Iggy Azalea, and ARIA Award nominee Vance Joy all dominating.

Faker has nabbed the title of Most Streamed Australian act, while Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’ continues to dominate streaming charts – the singer-songwriter’s ubiquitous tune is the Most Streamed Australian Song of the year. Rapper Iggy Azalea, meanwhile, has nabbed the title of Most Streamed Australian Album with The New Classic.

Coming in at number two on the list of most streamed artists is Flume, whose collaboration with the top dog, ‘Drop The Game’, was the fourth most streamed Australian track of the year. Other notable mentions in the former list include Sia, 5 Seconds of Summer, Hilltop Hoods, and Angus & Julia Stone.

Taking a look at Spotify’s global annual stats, Ed Sheeran is the most streamed artist in the world, ahead of Eminem, Coldplay, Calvin Harris, and Katy Perry. Pharrell Wiliams’ ‘Happy’ was the most streamed song, meanwhile, and Ed Sheeran’s X was the most streamed album.

In related news, popular music identification app Shazam released their own yearly stats yesterday, with Avicii taking the Most Shazamed Artist of 2014 title, as Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne’s ‘Rather Be’ nabbed Most Shazamed Song, and Young Thug and James Bay made the list of Shazam’s predictions for 2015’s hit-makers.
