It’s that time of year again, that time that Australian music lovers wait the whole year for, voting for the 2014 instalment of Triple J’s annual Hottest 100 poll will officially open 8am next Monday, 15th December, meaning you have just seven days to figure out your favourite songs of 2014.

Giving fans an indication of where listeners’ heads are at this year, Triple J recently unveiled their poll of station listeners’ favourite albums of the year, a list topped by Chet Faker’s Built on Glass, Ball Park Music’s Puddinghead, and Alt-J’s This Is All Yours.

The list was rounded out by a swag of Aussies, with every album except for Royal Blood’s self-titled debut coming from an Australian artist, including Hilltop Hoods’ Walking Under Stars, Sticky Fingers’ Land of Pleasure, and Flight Facilities’ Down To Earth.

While concrete details are yet to be released, in past years voting is kept open for 30 days, with listeners heading en masse to the Triple J website to plug in their top tracks of the year. The results are then played in full from #100 to the highly coveted #1 on Australia Day.

The past year’s countdown was famously topped by Vance Joy and his ubiquitous hit ‘Riptide’, with the top ten rounded out by the esteemed likes of Lorde, Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, and local favourites The Preatures, who were voted in after 1,492,619 votes were cast by fans in 169 countries.

Readers can head on over to the official Triple J website where the station has set up a countdown until voting time, as well as a link that will take you through the Hottest 100 countdowns of years past.
