Yes, it’s that time of year again. List season has well and truly arrived, with outlets including yours truly unveiling countdown after countdown of the best albums, best singles, best music videos, most hyped artists, and even most torrented files of the year and of all time (ours are the best, obviously).

Now, The Hype Machine, widely considered to be the blogosphere’s top aggregator, have unveiled their list of the most blogged-about musicians of the past 12 months. These aren’t the acts who topped charts or garnered views, but the ones whom the blog world just could not shut up about.

Best of all, there’s two homegrown favourites among them, with this year’s Australian golden boy Chet Faker coming in at a very respectable 14th place, sandwiched between stylish UK trio London Grammar and acclaimed American electropop pair Sylvan Esso, and electronic duo Flight Facilities just cracking the top 50.

Meanwhile, coming out on top to almost no one’s surprise is Los Angeles electronic songstress Banks, whose success has been largely credited to equal amounts of talent, undeniable style, and a virtually unrivalled following on the blogosphere that borders on obsession.

The top ten was rounded out by the likes of Caribou, Little Dragon, SBTRKT, Chromeo, Alt-J, Jessie Ware, Yumi Zouma, Sam Smith, and Jungle. Other notables to make the top 20 include Zhu, Drake, Glass Animals, Mac DeMarco, and Lana Del Rey.

Just as a frame of reference, The Hype Machine tracks popular music services including SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and Official.fm, in addition to MP3 embeds on 840 influential and taste-making blogs to collate the must-hear artists of the moment.

Chet, who’s been having an absolutely massive 2014, and Flight Facilities are definitely outliers in this year’s results. Last year, five Australians managed to make the same end-of-year list – Empire of the Sun, Say Lou Lou, Cut Copy, Flume, and Jagwar Ma.
