It’s been a ripping start to the Aussie summer, with the likes of Meredith festival well and truly thrusting forward our musical fun in the sun, and adding further excitement to the warmer months ahead of us, Melbourne’s Sunset Series has announced its triumphant return in January of next year.

Hosted by the City of Melbourne, the annual free event will take place at as the sun sets over the lush Stage Lawn in Fitzroy Gardens over the second and third weekends in January. Next year’s festivities promise a plethora of entertainment spanning from dance workshops, a delicious assortment of Melbourne’s growing food truck fleet and of course, the most important part of all, killer live music.

The evening of Saturday 10 January will see Melbourne four-piece APES take the stage, joined by Beautiful Beasts, Dash and Echo Drama. On Sunday Melbourne Salsa Dancing will have everyone up on their feet with a free workshop as the sun goes down.

The following weekend includes live performances from local nine-piece South American Roots outfit Madre Monte, as well as Passerine, The Tiger and Me and Dan Flynn and the State of Things on Saturday evening. Bring your dancing shoes on Sunday and join the workshop Rhythm and Spice Bollywood Dancing.

Chair of Marketing Melbourne, Councillor Beverley Pinder-Mortimer, said the Sunset Series was a unique and popular summer event, “This free community event has become a favourite for Melburnians, particularly local residents.”

Closing, she said, “Bring your family, friends and a picnic; relax in the surrounds of Fitzroy Gardens and enjoy the live local entertainment.”
