Earlier this week we raised our hands in excitement over the announcement of a free outdoor concert series with rad local artists that was hitting Aussie parks in January of next year, and would you believe it, there’s now an incredible series of free live music events in February, too.

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) have partnered up with the guys from Mushroom Group to create NGV Summer Sundays, a free musical extravaganza held in the garden of Melbourne’s NGV that will see a stunning array of both local bands and DJs perform, as well as delicious catering by the one and only Huxtaburger every Sunday of February from 1 – 7pm.

Performing artists include Lanie Lane, World’s End Press, I Oh You DJs, Husky, The Creases, Alpine and many more.

NGV director Tony Ellwood said of the collab, “We are pleased to be able to support young and upcoming local musicians and to have the opportunity to work with Mushroom to bring more music into our spaces. The music will complement our contemporary summer exhibitions and I look forward to welcoming visitors to the Summer Sundays at the NGV.”

Chairman of the Mushroom Group Michael Gudinski noted, “I’m very excited about our partnership with the NGV to curate the entertainment for the NGV Summer Sundays. It’s a fantastic initiative to showcase homegrown Australian artists in a creative hub such as the NGV, and I’m looking forward to kicking back with a beer and a burger in The Garden come February.”

As always, the Aussie summer of live music is shaping up to be an absolute cracker, one shouldn’t wish the year away – but with free events like this just around the corner, who can blame us?
