It goes without saying that one of, if not the, album we were most looking forward to going into 2015 is Perth rockers Tame Impala’s long-awaited follow-up to their acclaimed 2012 opus Lonerism. We here at the Tone Deaf office became so obsessed that we scoured the web to find all the details we could about the unnamed third LP.

While we still don’t have a name, we’re happy to report that we now have confirmation. According to an email from Spinning Top Music, the management company that handles the ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’ hit-makers, shared via Reddit, Tame Impala will release their Lonerism follow-up some time this year.

“Now, 2015 is going to be one helluva year,” the missive reads. “And I know this because I’m privvy to some information about some truly amazing things happening that I think you’ll all love as much as we will. There will be new albums from POND, Tame Impala, The Growl, Gunns, and Fascinator as well as tours and shows aplenty from everyone across the Spinning Top roster!”

While pertinent details, like a specific release date, aren’t presently available, there are plenty of things we already know about Tame Impala III (not an official title, guys). One of the things that piqued our interest particularly is the way the new songs will interact with the band’s live show.

“I have been working on a new light show for the set, though. I’ve found a new way to synchronize all the lights to what is happening in the songs, so it’s 100 times more interactive. I love the idea of the audio interacting with the visual,” said Parker in an interview with Radio.com back in November.

Naturally, we can’t wait to get our hands on the new record, but in the meantime, there’s been plenty of Tame Impala action happening during the last two years. In addition to Kevin Parker’s much-publicised collabs with Kendrick Lamar and Mark Ronson, the band have unveiled several covers, two live EPs, a live album, and a collab with The Flaming Lips.
