With the frenzy around the annual Triple J Hottest 100 — a.k.a. the biggest public vote in Australia besides the federal election — well and truly at boiling point, fans are now scrambling to get some indication about who they can expect to reach the top ten when the big day comes around.
We may already have some pretty big clues however, with avid Triple J playlist watchers JPlay nearing competition of their tally of Triple J’s 100 most played tracks of 2014.
And if the numbers so far are anything to go by, Aussie electronic duo Peking Duk, rockers Sticky Fingers, stylish New York duo Phantogram, the inimitable Presets, the irreverent Art Vs Science, as well as Future Islands, Thundamentals, The War On Drugs, Wave Racer, and Violent Soho are in with a good chance.
These ten acts take up each of the spots in last year’s top ten most played tracks respectively. Peking Duk earned themselves the top spot with their hit ‘High’, which has seen them go from an underground phenomenon to one of the most in-demand acts to come out of Australia’s bustling electronic scene.

Ever-controversial local rockers Sticky Fingers ironically got the silver with ‘Gold Snafu’, while Phantogram managed to place with their track ‘Fall In Love’. The Presets earned a top five entry for ‘Goodbye Future’ and ‘Create / Destroy’ clinched it for Art Vs Science.

As Tone Deaf recently noted, Powderfinger are the ultimate Hottest 100 band, having consistently placed highly over the span of a decade.
However, it’s unlikely to deter Peking Duk, who just so happened to be the first artist to be played on the nation’s youth network in 2015 and who recently showed the lengths they’re willing to go to win the Hottest 100, ingesting 100 searingly hot chillies with their pal The Kite String Tangle.
