Organisers have announced that the bulk of this year’s Salisbury Secret Garden performances will be comprised of live music acts, featuring artists from across the country and around the globe. Specifically, more than half of this year’s 36 acts will play live music at venues across the Salisbury district.

The Secret Garden serves as the Adelaide Fringe Festival’s largest hub outside of the CBD and is set to run from 19th February till 1st March, featuring more than 90 ticketed performances. As the Herald Sun reports, Mayor Gillian Aldridge said the the successes of 2014 inspired council to add extra music acts this year.

“Live music acts were amongst the most popular at the inaugural Salisbury Secret Garden and we really want to build on that success,” said Ms Aldridge. Indeed, last year’s event managed to draw about 6,000 people to the district and this year is poised to follow suit.

“We have artists… from Canberra, Tasmania, rural South Australia, Adelaide, and locally to showcase their… talents in music comedy, country ‘n’ western, rock, folk, jazz and much more,” Ms Aldridge explained. Punters will be able to check out performances from acts as diverse as The Burundian Drummers Club or comedian Heath Franklin.

There will be a wide range of free entry events, including some live music acts, an open mic night, outdoor cinema screening of The Croods in the Civic Square, and numerous buskers’ performances. Meanwhile, businesses like the Caffe Primo, Stockade Tavern, and Hoyts Cinemas will host shows throughout the 10-day festival.

Salisbury RSL will be involved for the first time, hosting comedy acts as well as a one-man circus. President Mick Lennon told the Herald Sun he was “tickled pink” that his venue was chosen to host the shows.

“The Secret Garden is a golden opportunity for Salisbury businesses to get some advertising without having to pay anything,” Mr Lennon said. “It’ll definitely be a drawcard to show off what we’ve got in Salisbury, to show them all the facilities and businesses, so we’re tickled pink that we are involved.”
