It’s already surprising when a famous actor drops a single out of nowhere, but it’s even more surprising when that single isn’t a piece of self-indulgent garbage. Case in point is comedy legend Eddie Murphy, who recently unveiled his latest foray into reggae, ‘Oh Jah Jah’, and contrary to all expectations, it’s pretty good.

Those who’ve been paying attention will know that Murphy has a well-established foothold in the music business, having unveiled his timeless debut single back in 1985, ‘Party All the Time’. Since then, Murphy has continued to record, though releases have been infrequent, most recently unveiling a reggae tune with Snoop Dogg, ‘Red Light’.

Having received a positive reaction to his latest foray into the genre — Murphy played a reggae singer in the classic SNL skit titled ‘Kill The White People’ — the comedy icon decided to unveil ‘Oh Jah Jah’. Murphy told Rolling Stone that the song’s political themes lent themselves best to a reggae tune. Check it out below.
