We love the internet. It’s a source of virtually endless information and entertainment. After all, it lets us supply our beloved readers with a steady stream of local and international music news, so how we could we not adore it?

However, it’s important to note that the internet also has a dark and frankly terrifying underbelly. No, we’re not talking about the Silk Road or any of those other less-than-savoury websites that you need Tor to access.

Occasionally, the internet will supply you with something so unsettling that you’re not quite sure what to make of it. Case in point, YouTube user dotflist has painstakingly recorded alternate themes for some 72 classic and popular TV shows.

No, not alternate versions of the original themes, like the Cheers theme played on a Casio, dotflist has written completely original tracks for shows ranging from modern pop culture phenomenons like Game of Thrones and Girls, to classics like Seinfeld and The X-Files.

And they’re not all just variations on theme (no pun intended), either. The YouTuber, who should probably see a shrink, employs disparate music styles, including melodic pop punk (The Simpsons), psychedelic jangle pop (Friends), and lo-fi garage rock (Animaniacs).

The result is akin to watching your favourite shows if they were broadcast in an alternate universe or some sort of bad drug trip. However, while the songs are all surprisingly catchy in an Adult Swim kind of way, the lyrics are often incredibly disturbing, so prepare to have some memories tainted.
