Whenever something tragic happens at a live event, it seems to have a particularly chilling effect on us. Something about the unthinkable happening during something we most associate with being carefree and having fun makes it hard for us to even imagine what it would be like to be in that situation.

It’s perhaps what makes newly surfaced footage of a recent performance by R&B singer Chris Brown all the more terrifying. As the San Jose Mercury News reports, four people were found suffering gunshot wounds after a shooting broke out during a Brown performance at the Fiesta nightclub on Sunday at about 1.20am.

A short time later, another shooting victim admitted himself to hospital. While the conditions of the victims have not yet been divulged, police said all of the victims are expected to survive. Brown, who was performing his hit ‘Loyal’ when the violence broke out, was not injured.

Footage from the incident, including video of Brown first noticing a scuffle towards the back of the venue before gun shots are heard, has spread on social media. In a second video, the crowd can be seen watching Brown perform, when the shots are fired, the crowd quickly disperse, leaving the venue almost empty.

According to promotional materials and event attendees, Brown was at the venue as part of a VIP birthday event with celebrants including the singer’s manager. Local KMEL DJs Big Von and Black Marc were advertised as providing music for the event.

The San Jose Mercury News reports police detained several individuals following the shooting, though it’s currently unconfirmed if any were arrested, with police refusing to release additional details. Readers can watch the chilling footage from the incident below.
