Following the successful release of her debut single ‘Here’, Sydney based indie pop songstress Wren is on the eve of releasing her debut EP Raw.

Classically trained, Wren was gifted with a unique set of talents; a passion for composition combined with an impressive ability to play a number of instruments, including the violin.

To celebrate the release of her new EP and upcoming East Coast tour, Wren gave us a track by track run down of Raw, check it out.

Here

“A vastly emotive and powerful song, ‘Here’ combines dualistic tones to express my personal frustrations. A contrast of immense, powerful sounds and eerie sparseness. I have included a subtle Tribal element, which encompasses a world music vibe.”

Kindred

“‘Kindred’ features somewhat spectral and Ghostly qualities, which highlight my desire to create a cinematic sound scape that takes the listener on a visual journey.”

Soldiers

“‘Soldiers’ is a vulnerable and emotional track. It discusses ideas of letting go and moving on from something even though it hurts – when you know it’s the only thing left to do. I compare this to a Soldier arming themselves for battle and doing what they know is right to protect themselves and those they love.”

Alive

“‘Alive’ focuses on the duality of human experience. “Heaven and hell we did embrace” – for every thing exists its opposite. I wanted the composition and lyrical content to provide an uplifting feeling.”

Raw

“‘Raw’ is an In-Studio improvisation to show the stripped back progression of a work, and to display the remarkable power of both the violin and viola to express a myriad of different emotions and create a full bodied, powerful expression. They hold so many tools of communication within different techniques, just like the human voice. I one day hope to get into music for film and television, so my passion in this area was expressed here.”
