If you were alive in the mid-2000s, and if you’re reading this it’s likely that you were because otherwise, you’re doing a seriously impressive job with that whole learning to read thing, but we digress. If you were indeed around and indie music mattered at all to you, it’s very likely you read Hipster Runoff.

Launched in 2007, just as the term “hipster” was slithering its way into everybody’s lexicon, the blog was a must-read for indie music and pop culture lovers. Run by the mysterious “Carles”, Hipster Runoff‘s popularity soared as a result of its sardonic sense of humour, savage satire, and goofy, often puerile pop commentary.

While you were never quite sure just what you were laughing at, the blog was undeniably funny, until of course, it basically went radio silent in 2013. Following several indications that Carles was looking to bring the blog to an end, he stopped updating the site at the end of 2013 after asking, “Is the scene still alive?”

The site remained silent until recently, when it was resurrected with a post about American indie pop outfit Echosmith and their song ‘Cool Kids’. However, what is perhaps most interesting is Carles’ indication that he wishes to sell the site, which is now listed on website auction engine Flippa.

At the time of writing, the current bid for Hipster Runoff stands at $7,500. Flippa describes the site as a “famous niche PR site… that has gone inactive but still generates traffic”. According to Carles, the sale of the famous domain has been motivated by “boredom / other interests”.

So if you’re looking to become the new owner of one of the most influential music blogs on the internet, this could be your chance. Of course, as several people have noted in the comments, one must take into account the site’s long period of inactivity which may affect its Google Rank impact. Pretty indie, no?
