The Triple J Hottest 100 is no trifling matter. For many artists it could be the difference between another year of toiling in relative obscurity or breaking into the mainstream and finally making it. It’s so serious, in fact, that Glass Animals were willing to put one of their own men on the line for it.

For those playing catch up, earlier this month Glass Animals took to Facebook to announce that if they were to get into the top 20 of the Triple J Hottest 100, they would “relentlessly slap” keyboardist Drew MacFarlane’s naked body with a “raw salmon for a whole minute”.

“EVERYONE can vote. Even if you’re not an Aussie,” wrote frontman Dave Bayley on Facebook. “So… help me out cos (sic) I really want to hit drew with a fish. Here’s a little video of me and Joe practicing with a bream.” Readers can check out the bream practice vid below.

Well, it seems Glass Animals are men of their word. “On January 10th we made a deal with the internet that if we got into the top 20 of the Triple J Hottest 100, Joe, Ed, and I would slap Drew’s naked body with raw salmon and make a video for all to see,” they now write.

“We honestly thought it would be impossible considering the other artists involved, and never in a million years thought we’d actually be spending our afternoon swinging fish at Drew’s boob. Huge thank-you to everyone who voted and made this possible. Drew… love you. You are a saint. Here’s the video!”

The conscientious UK outfit also insisted that the fish slapping was not in vain. “All fish in this video were donated to us and were ethically sourced. Since the slapping, we have de-boned and filleted the fish, and given it to our mothers and friends to eat. Nom nom nom,” they wrote.
