Ahh Friday, our favourite day of the week, not just because the weekend is almost upon us, but because it’s Triple J’s Like A Version day, and just like last week’s “controversial” episode, they’ve given us an absolute corker.

Hosts Matt and Alex were joined by Sydney three-piece Mansionair (the guys responsible for the beautiful ‘Hold Me Down‘) covering fellow Laneway Festival performer Future Islands, with their crossover hit ‘Seasons (Waiting On You)‘.

This is a bold move for any artist to cover, the passion that pours from Samuel T. Herring on the original appearing almost impossible to replicate, however Mansionair do the heart-wrenching track justice, giving a more introverted, staring at the ceiling at night kinda rendition.

Sonically, the cover pertains solely to Mansionair’s chilling aesthetic, with icy high-toned guitars, an ominous, brooding bass beat and a slow percussion tap, the trio produce a captivating version of the consuming emotional masterpiece.

Although we adore this killer version, there is a major flaw with the boys’ cover that will forever separate it from Future Islands, and that is they just don’t have the dance moves that Herring has, and if you’ve no idea what we’re on about – check out Future Islands’ performance on Letterman, it’ll blow your mind.

You can catch both Mansionair and Future Islands at the travelling musical circus that is Laneway Festival, see tour dates below but first dig the Like A Version:
