Having reestablished itself as one of Sydney’s premier live music destinations, following a turbulent few years, the future of live music at Sydney’s beloved Lansdowne Hotel now looks less certain. The venue is set to close for renovations, with gigs planned for February moved to alternative venues.

As TheMusic.com.au reports, the venue has been hosting regular live music since April last year following its purchase by the Oscars Group and a much-publicised fire in January 2013 that caused structural damage to the venue. The venue finally reopened in June of the same year.

The venue’s imminent closure has forced shows by Grenadiers, Daily Meds, and The Laurels to move to other venues, according to posts on the respective bands’ Facebook pages. The venue currently has no upcoming gigs booked and is yet to release a statement about the upcoming renovations.

Venue bookers told TheMusic.com.au that they have been instructed to “cancel all entertainment at The Lansdowne from February 1 as the venue undergoes a refurbishment scheduled to last approximately four months”, leaving the future of live music at the Lansdowne uncertain.

“We’re unsure as to what the program will look like moving forward but will certainly be meeting with the owners prior to the reopening to discuss,” said Nathan Farrell Entertainment’s Josef Muller. “Needless to say, we are really proud of the programming and culture that we’ve grown around the venue for the past eight months.”

Grenadiers are now slated to play Frankie’s Pizza on Thursday, 5th February, The Laurels will play the Oxford Art Factory on Friday, 6th February, and Daily Meds have moved their upcoming show to fellow Oscars venue The Annandale Hotel on Friday, 6th February. A Friday, 13th February show from hardcore outfit Hellions is yet to be rescheduled.
