In case you somehow missed it, Tone Deaf reader’s favourite Aussie music day out, Laneway Festival, hit our shores last week and it’s greatness has dominated headlines for all the right reasons.

With Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth set to experience the sheer wonder of the popular day fest this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively, we decided to piece together a list of all the rad things the performing artists have been getting up to both during the festival and outside.

From bands kissing onstage to giving each other makeovers whilst others have vanished into the vast wilderness, it’s so warming to see that the acts billed at Laneway are digging being a part of the festival as much as we are.

Mac DeMarco & His Mum Dress Up as B1 & B2

When the news broke that Mac DeMarco’s Mumma Agnes would be MC of Laneway Festival, we were naturally very excited but also a little confused, leading us to the almighty question, is Agnes as rad as her goofball of a son? The answer of course, an emphatic yes.

The mother/son combo have certainly been having a good time Down Under, the pair embracing Aussie culture by becoming Bananas In Pyjamas for a little photoshoot. It appears Mother DeMarco has been had a fantastic time on tour with her son and his pals, tweeting her praise for local psych-garegers The Murlocs who supported Mac at his sideshow earlier this week.

St. Vincent Is Being As Weirdly Wonderful As Always

There’s no denying that we are massive fans of the art rock goddess that is Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, and despite performing no sideshows on the Laneway tour, the guitar shredder has used her time to be as perfectly odd as per usual.

Only St. Vincent could scour the mean streets of Sydney to find (hopefully) Australia’s only “Quick Butthole Service”, rock on, you absolute legend.

Flight Facilities & Vic Mensa’s Collab Was Insane

This has got to be our favourite moment of Laneway so far, and the fact that there is behind the scenes and stageside footage makes it all the better.

Aussie dancefloor legends Flight Facilities, closing the main stage of Sydney’s instalment on Sunday, surprised their sea of adoring fans as Chicago rapper Vic Mensa stepped onstage to smash apart ‘Down On My Luck’/’Down To Earth’. There’s not much we can say that isn’t completely trumped by the video below. Enjoy.

Courtney Barnett & Dune Rats Become Twins

Two of Australia’s favourite artists, the slack rocker Courtney Barnett and cheeky brat punks Dune Rats made a little stop-off at Sydney’s FBi Radio studio and what happened next cemented the two blood brothers for lyfe.

Clearly obsessed with her shaggy-haired lock, the freshest member of Dune Rats Brett Jansch scored himself a little haircut courtesy of Courtney Barnett herself, creating not one but two raggy looking rockers. Maybe Courtney should set-up her own hairdressing pop-up this weekend at Laneway Fest?

Flying Lotus & Caribou Blew The Roof Off The Opera House

Playing back-to-back sets at Australia’s one and only Sydney Opera House, the jazz-hiphop fusion master Flying Lotus and the Essential Mix winner of 2014 Caribou both delivered two of the most talked about sets of the past 12 months.

We’ve managed to snag some fan-footage of Caribou’s entire encore, and you expect, it is fucking unbelievable.

Connan Mockasin & Mac DeMarco Share A Passionate Kiss

It seems this year’s Laneway has plenty of love between not just between fan and artists, but amongst the artists themselves, and what better displays such feelings then a juicy french kiss?

Man of the tour Mac DeMarco, obviously overcome with such adoring passion for Kiwi Connan Mockisan, jumped onstage with the psychedelic-pop artist and planted him a big old wet one on the lips. We don’t know where Agnes was when this happened, but let’s hope Maccy’s “sweet, sweet KiKi” doesn’t mind.

Mac DeMarco Crowd Surfs To Future Islands

Alright, if this was any other musician we know you’d be a little fatigued by now, but the Canadian jangle-pop extraordinaire Maccy D is a gift that keeps on giving.

Just like the rest of us, the 24-year old is a passionate music fan, and just like the rest of us, when he witnesses a band like Future Islands performing live, he loses all inhibitions.

Situated to the front right hand side of the stage, DeMarco was thrust upon the crowd in the dying seconds of the epic ‘Seasons (Waiting For You)’, the crowd erupting as Sam Herring gives a ground-shaking, earthily roar. Check out the action in the vid below.

Ratking DJ In A Melbourne Laneway

Depsite being chastised as a freak for following your favourite artists’ every move on social media, there’s no better feeling when your obsessions pay-off, and you get to witness an intimate show like this.

Sporting Life of the hiphop crew Ratking dropped a tweet announcing that he’d be playing a secret DJ set at Ferdydurke for free, and by all accounts from the lucky folks who made it into Melbourne’s CBD, it was killer show.

For those who are a little pissed off they didn’t get to dig Sporting Life’s set, worry not, there’s still tickets available for Ratking’s gig tonight at Ding Dong Lounge in the CBD.

FKA twigs Loves Australia So Much, She Debuted A New Track Live

Unquestionably the most spoken about artist of this year’s Laneway festival is the magnetic and enigmatic UK songstress, FKA twigs.

Dazzling audiences with her intricate outfit, dizzing choreographed dance routines and most importanlty, her pitch-perfect vocals, it’s fair to say that Australia want to keep Tahliah Barnett for as long as humanly possible.

Clearly, the love is reciprocated, with the RnB artist debuting a brand-spanking new track ‘Figure 8’ at a Melbourne sideshow at 170 Russell. Check out the fan filmed footage below.

Future Islands Have Gone Bush

While other Laneway artists have been trolling Aussie streets, kissing each other onstage, cutting each other’s hair and debuting brand-new tracks, the guys from Future Islands have decided to enjoy the great outdoors that both New Zealand and Australia have to offer.

Taking to their official Instagram, the guys have been getting all nature, broing out as the hit the coast for a surf and a snorkel, as well as catching up with some local Aussie fauna, the four-piece from Baltimore looking much more like a happy family on holiday. Aww.

BANKS Becomes Nail Art

We’ve all heard of crazy fans getting tattoos, creating their own fan art and of course merchandise too, but Ally Bingham may have just gone one better. Teaming up with Trohpy Wife Nails, the fangirl has gone and got BANKS painted on her nails, and it looks pretty damn cool.
