Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the Hallmark holiday traditionally brings to mind two things: happy couples in fancy restaurants sipping from champagne flutes with arms linked, and sitting at home with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s watching Bridget Jones’s Diary (this applies to guys as well).

But now there’s a way to stave off the latter. Yes, there exists a dating app that matches people based on the only metric that actually matters: music taste. It’s called Tastebuds.fm and it’s one of the best and most crushing “Why didn’t I think of that?” ideas we’ve heard about in some time.

While the site was initially powered by Last.fm, the popular music-based social network, it now lets users engage via their Spotify accounts, scanning users’ most-played tunes and playlists, then following user-chosen filters such as age, gender, and location to return suggested users with similar likes.

Logistically, Tastebuds.fm works like pretty much any other dating site. You can search based on your music preferences, and even toggle those if you’d prefer to date someone who has completely different taste to you, as well as various age ranges and other metrics. The app, which is totally free, also has a messaging function.

What’s perhaps most interesting about Tastebuds.fm, however, is the insight it offers into how different musical tastes relate to different personality traits, as well as a person’s attractiveness. For example, as TIME reports, a Tastebuds.fm survey claimed that rock and hip-hop fans are the most promiscuous.

According to the survey, which saw over 400 respondents, Nirvana fans rate the highest when it comes to “putting out”, with Metallica and Linkin Park fans not far behind. Beatles and Rihanna fans led the middle of the lowest, and Coldplay fans will be expecting a few dates before they jump in the sack.

That’s perhaps unfortunate for fans of Chris Martin and the boys, because if another Tastebuds.fm survey is anything to go by, no one wants to date Coldplay fans in the first place. In a survey that had respondents ranking which music acts turned them off the most, Coldplay were in the top five.

The number one music turnoff? Is it any surprise that it’s Nickelback? Apparently, almost 13 percent of app users cited their brand of tired post-grunge as a total turnoff, followed closely by fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, then Lady Gaga and Ke$ha. Rounding out the list were U2, Creed, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, and Britney Spears.

While we reckon you should always be honest about your musical tastes, perhaps it’s best to avoid mentioning your love for the dulcet tones of Chad Kroeger, and that goes for guys and girls, who both ranked them as the number one musical turnoff. As for the most popular genre on Tastebuds.fm? Creator Julian Keenaghan told Consequence of Sound it’s indie rock.
