Soundwave organisers have announced that two of their most highly anticipated international acts, Floridian melodic hardcore outfit Evergreen Terrace and Californian rockers Rival Sons, will no longer appear at the upcoming instalment of the hard rock festival, which is set to kick off later this month in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Taking to his beloved Twitter account, promoter AJ Maddah told followers yesterday, “Evergreen Terrace’s drummer has fallen of a ladder and sustained serious injuries. They have cancelled all shows including #SW15.” In a statement on Facebook, the band write that drummer Brad Moxey has suffered a “terrible accident”.

Meanwhile, organisers have shared a statement from Rival Sons in which the band write that despite “waiting years” to see their Australian fans, one of the members of the band recently had a child and “we’ve found that taking our brother away from his wife and newborn so soon ultimately defies our personal ethics as a band”.

News of the two cancellations come just a day after Maddah tweeted his delight at the fact that this year’s Soundwave is the first where no bands have cancelled. Last year’s event saw multiple cancellations, with Megadeth, Newsted, Stone Temple Pilots, Sevendust, Desaparecidos, and more pulling out.

Meanwhile, fans have begun speculating that Evergreen Terrace may have been struck by the dreaded Soundwave drummer curse. Indeed, Soundwave has a bad history with drummers – in 2013, Blink-182 were forced to play without Travis Barker and Slayer fired Dave Lombardo just prior to the event, where Anthrax were also forced to play without drummer Charlie Benante.

While replacements for the two bands have not yet been announced, festival organisers did recently add a raft of new acts to the lineup, all of whom are winners of the Triple J Unearthed Soundwave competition, including Bare Bones (Sydney), I, Valiance (Melbourne), A Ghost Orchestra (Adelaide), and Columbus (Brisbane).

In the meantime, Moxey’s partner has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the drummer’s recovery and physical therapy. According to the campaign page, the drummer suffered severe injuries to his elbow. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised $5,558 of their $20,000 goal.
