There seems to be a bit of “fuck authority” in the air of late, with a punk outfit forming with the sole desire to force Tony Abbott out of office, and now another more established Aussie punk group have stood-up against aggressive action taken by a security guard.

Video footage has emerged of The Smith Street Band’s gig last Friday night at Sydney’s Metro Theatre which sees frontman Wil Wagner completely stop the band’s performance to call-out a security guard who for rough physical conduct on a punter, as Pedestrian reports.

The four-piece was pouring through the crowd-pleasing track ‘Young Drunk’ when Wagner abruptly shouts at a bouncer “whoa, whoa, what the fuck are you doing to our friend over there, let him go!” the crowd instantly erupting in cheers for Wagner and boo’s for the security guard, who was allegedly man-handling a crowd-surfing punter.

“Let him go, don’t take him into a corner punch him, let him go and have a good night, thank you” he commands of the bouncer, before joking to the crowd “just after I said how nice they [security] were, how ’bout that?” as the band seamlessly dived back into the track.

This gesture of goodwill by The Smith Street Band only cements their title as all-round legends of the Aussie music scene, standing-up for fans is something often ignored by bands, however we do hope that Wagner’s public call-out against the security guard was in fact warranted.

The Melbourne quartet recently received a lot of love after they told Tony Abbott to ‘Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face’ in a very heated track.
