Using a love of records as a character trait in a movie has been so overdone that it’s basically a cliche at this point. We’ve all seen it happen. The filmmakers can’t think of an original way to make a character interesting or memorable, so they give them a vinyl hobby or something as a “quirk”.

The thing is, some of those characters actually have pretty sweet record collections. Some are even so awesome we find ourselves actually jealous of fictional characters handling what is probably just a cut-up cereal box that some prop guy made to look like a rare Beatles LP.

That said, cinema is also filled with plenty of characters who aren’t just one-dimensional besides their love of old music. They’re real people that each of us know in our daily lives and their passion for music is just as important to them as it is to every one of us. Here are some of our favs.
