Yesterday, Tone Deaf reported on an impassioned plea recently issued by Aussie singer-songwriter Whitley. In a missive posted to his social media channels, Whitley urged Aussie punters to save the money they normally reserve for music festivals and instead spend it on local gigs.

Well, here’s one festival that you can help just by giving it five measly minutes of your time. The Rock In The Vines festival launched at Bendigo’s Rifle Brigade Hotel in March last year, with a lineup featuring King of the North, Jackson Firebird, The Ska Vendors, and My Left Boot.

“The Rock In The Vines Music Festival is about bringing the crowds to the bands in a fantastic outdoor setting,” write organisers. “Our aim is to provide regional bands with the opportunity to perform in front of a diverse crowd alongside larger touring acts.”

But before they start planning their 2016 event, they’re appealing to fans and the local community to help them out by answering a simple survey. “We need to hear from YOU, the community, to know that what we are planning will be valued and supported,” organisers write.

“We believe that [Rock In The Vines] provides a fantastic opportunity to regional bands that currently doesn’t exist and will in time provide long term benefits not only for the youth and artist culture of the region bit as the festival grows will promote tourism and mean benefits to the Bendigo Goldfields Region,” they add.

By offering just five minutes to fill out a simple survey (mostly questions about your own festival habits and what you’d like to see in a Aussie rural boutique festival), you can have a legitimate impact on an important part of rural Victoria’s cultural calendar.
