There’s nothing quite like that feeling of a Friday morning, we’re only a few hours away from two days of freedom (well, for most of us) and of course, Triple J airs our favourite radio segment of the week – Like A Version, and this week’s edition is an absolute cracker.

This week joining Breakfast Show hosts Matt and Alex in the studio are Melbourne’s rowdy punk meets reggae brats, The Bennies who have covered a TISM classic, ‘(He’ll Never Be An) Ol’ Man River’.

The video is brilliant, the four-piece clad in DIY balaclavas made out of The Smith Street Band beanies in attempts to recreate TISM’s aesthetic. The track itself isn’t a far cry from the original, The Bennies paying true homage to the tune whilst adding their own groovin’ reggae flavour to the eclectic song.

Last week we were damn impressed with Hiatus Kaiyote who dropped one of the greatest covers we’ve heard in quite some time, but boyo, The Bennies are high contenders for the #1 for choosing a ripper track and packing a whole lotta fun to the weekly segment.

Like A Version 2015 has already seen an amazing rendition of 2014’s biggest track by an up-and-coming group, an almost perfect cover of an indie anthem and of course, the classic rework of a ’90s hit, the end of year Like A Version compilation is looking nice.
