Between Soundwave and the Foo Fighters’ epic headline tour, the past week has seen Australia become packed with more talent than you can poke a stick at. Foo Fighters brought buddies Rise Against along to open for them and Soundwave always features a stacked lineup.

Naturally, rock stars like hanging out with other rock stars and when you get a whole bunch of them within a business class flight of each other, some collaborations are bound to happen, and that’s just what went down over the weekend.

Foo Fighters were joined by Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, and Black Sabbath drummer Brad Wilk, Marilyn Manson was joined by Hollywood star and talented musician in his own right Johnny Depp, then joined Smashing Pumpkins during one of their gigs, and Rise Against were joined on stage by former My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way.

Marilyn Manson / Johnny Depp

Manson and Depp have been pals for a while now, as evidenced by Depp showing up in a similar fashion during the Prince of Darkness’ gig at The Roxy in Hollywood back in 2014. Depp is currently in town filming the next instalment in the Pirates Of The Carribean franchise and decided to take some time out to jam out to Manson’s signature tune, The Beautiful People.

Tonight we saw Johnny Depp play with Marilyn Manson then our friend's car got towed.

Smashing Pumpkins / Marilyn Manson

Looking to make his own out-of-the-blue cameo appearance at a Sidewave gig, Manson showed up onstage during Smashing Pumpkins’ performance at Soundwave Sydney, with Manson and Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan sharing vocals on the latter’s 1998 single Ava Adore. Manson had previously joined Corgan on stage in London to play the same track.

Foo Fighters / Brad Wilk

If they rock, you can be sure Dave Grohl knows them. Having collaborated with everyone from Queens of the Stone Age, to John Paul Jones, Rick Nielsen, and Lemmy, it comes as no surprise that he’s buddies with one of the guys from Rage Against the Machine. Grohl invited RATM’s sticks man, Brad Wilk, to join the band on the Van Halen classic ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love’.

Rise Against / Gerard Way

Those who toughed it out and arrived early for the Foo Fighters’ recent Sydney performance were handsomely rewarded when openers Rise Against invited former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, who was in town to perform as part of the Soundwave lineup, on stage to join them on a cover of ‘Astro Zombies’, originally performed by horror punk legends the Misfits.
