Long-running Melbourne venue The Cellar Bar have announced that they will be expanding their operations to include a regular live music program. While the venue has been known for its status as a drinking hole, as well as private functions and events over the years, this will be their first regular gig program.

Located underneath St Kilda’s Newmarket Hotel, the Cellar Bar has an understated and elegant speakeasy vibe, reminiscent of CBD mainstays like 1806, but with ample space for live performances. Featuring a capacity of about 250 punters, the venue has hosted DJs, burlesque performers, and other performances.

As theMusic.com.au reports, the forthcoming music program includes a month-long residency from acclaimed funk outfit Brooklyn’s Finest this April, as well as next week’s return of Wakefield Fest, which will see appearances from Britto, Lilting, Louis, Zain Mitchlan, Jackie V, The Gravy Tram, Hannah Kate, and more.

Back in January, the space hosted the Prince Of Wales’ Live’n’Local gig as part of St Kilda Festival, featuring Khristian Mizzi & The Sirens, which showcased the space’s world-class sound system, stage facilities, and lighting rig, and the venue have plans to expand their resourced further.

“We’ve got some nice little line-ups that have grown organically,” Cellar Bar booker and publicist Cassie Walker told theMusic.com.au. “We’re taking it slow, letting it grow and ironing out any problems, and hopefully it’ll be a nice little operating venue!”

Hungry punters will also be able to enjoy the venue’s quality dining menu, featuring dishes from head chef Stephen Burke. Those looking to check out the latest addition to Melbourne’s live music scene can head to the Cellar Bar in St Kilda from Thursday to Saturday.
