New York indie pop connoisseur, Wolf Colony has just released his killer new album Unmasked dynamic electronic release layered in swelling synth, and dark 90s pop influences.

Based out of New York City, Wolf Colony is an anonymous singer-songwriter who began collaborating with music producer Neal Sarin in 2012 with no initial intention of pursuing a career as a recording artist.

However since the release of his debut EP, Welcome to the Wild Side, Wolf Colony has organically grown a global following and has performed at various music venues including Bowery Ballroom, House of Blues and Brooklyn Bowl.

Now following the release of the exclusively Sarin produced Unmasked Wolf Colony has given us a track by tack rundown of this stunning LP – check it out below.

The One

“I wrote this song as a love letter. The only lyrics I had in my head before recording were “I think you are my favorite”, from there the rest of the song flowed naturally. It’s so fun and uplifting and positive, it makes me feel so good.”

Youth

“This was actually the first song I wrote that ended up being on the album. I constantly feel nostalgic, this song was born out of that feeling. It has a lot of examples of things I enjoyed doing as a child. Like video games and playing hide and seek. I had a happy childhood.”

Beauty

“Originally this was called Beauté, which means Beauty in French, but I realized that it sounds like booty. It’s one of the earliest songs I recorded. It tells a story of a girl that is so beautiful inside and out that she could be seen as a goddess. I was not thinking about anyone specific, it was more about how we progress from meeting someone for the first time and about the choices that we make.”

Paradise

“I was at home alone when I wrote this song on my keyboard. I was thinking about how I did not appreciate my old life, how carefree I was in comparisons to my current situation. Paradise is about the loss of paradise, after finding it.”

Calling

“I wrote this song in the studio, that’s how I usually write. My style is on the spot. I was thinking about longing for someone and how to express it without speech. I guess Calling is my mating call.”

Pleasure

“I used to live in Paris. Someone I knew there who truly enjoyed his or her life inspired this song. It’s about being a hedonist, seeking pleasure and enjoying the ride.”

Holy

“I used to live in Paris. Someone I knew there who truly enjoyed his or her life inspired this song. It’s about being a hedonist, seeking pleasure and enjoying the ride.”

Dark & Moody

“I was feeling very emotional when I wrote and recorded this song. It’s a mixture of how I view myself at times and about how certain people in my life took advantage of me. I knew something was not right but I kept playing along, saying that things will change. Unfortunately, for the most part they don’t.”

The Otherside

“What’s funny about this song is that it was recorded on the same day as The One even thought it could not be more different. It deals with mortality and sanity, very casual topics. So it’s interesting how I can go from one end of the spectrum to the complete opposite.”

Brown Eyes

“I wrote this song about an initial meeting and the sudden feeling it generated. It’s about an immediate irrational attraction, love (or lust) at first sight. And about the fantasies and thoughts that come after that.”

Run

“The lyrics and message of this song is special to me. I listen to it when I doubt myself. It’s comes from the inspirational part of me. Run is about feeling lost and confused but ultimately finding your way, and knowing that you must stick to your guns and fight for what you want.”

Fame

“I was playing the track for this song in my apartment and dancing and singing all the lyrics over and over, it felt so energetic and badass but silly and fun at the same time. It’s more experimental and different from the other tracks, specially the chorus. I was unsure of it at the beginning, but now I love it. Fame is about the desire to be recognized for my work and not for who I am. That’s why I wear a mask, to separate my art from myself.”

In Your Eyes

“This song was recorded in a single take, just an acoustic piano and me. I wrote it on my keyboard and started playing it live and it made me feel so much. It was not supposed to be on the album but at the end of a recording session I decided to record a single take of it, just to have it for myself. I ended up loving it so much that I added it to the album. I break my own heart every time I sing this song.”
