As the rest of the world begins to acknowledge the racket that’s been going on in their backyards for years now, Australia is beginning to look past the big names to recognise the bustling scene of up-and-coming talent in the local hip-hop scene.

At the forefront of the new vanguard of talented young emcees is NYUON. The young rhyme-slinger was born in an Ethiopian refugee camp to Sudanese parents, moving to Australia in 2011 to escape the civil war. It was in his new life in Melbourne that he discovered his talent for rhyme and lyricism.

In order to shine a light on some of the up-and-coming talent in Australia’s hip-hop talent, we recruited NYUON to share some of his “favourite low-key up and coming Aussie hip hop acts”.

First Up Is My Man And 1Ž2 of TPDIB, Cris Gamble

“I’ve known this guy since orientation day year 7 and not only can he rap, but he makes some crazy instrumentals. If you ever find yourself wondering who composed that old school sound for my single ‘YOUR CITY’ – you can thank Cris Gamble for that. He’s already had a hit track with producer/DJ Joel Fletcher and jumped on some tracks with 90sRD Rapper Baro, so I wouldn’t be surprised if his name sounds familiar. Cris is scheduled to release his first mix-tape sometime in March. Definitely look out for that.”

Next We Have Abraham aka Father Abraham

“You have probably never heard of this guy but he can do it all! You need a beat…? Father Abraham! You want some hot bars…? Father Abraham! You want some Trap Music…? Father Abraham! You’re a singer and you want someone to write a song for you? You already know who to go to. Anything artistic that involves music and hip hop, he can do! That’s why his talents definitely need to be recognised and checked out. Keep a close ear out for him because I heard he’s got about 80 unreleased tracks on his laptop, so be prepared!”

My next pick goes by the name of BLVCK LOGIC

“BLVCK LOGIC is a hip hop producer and a dope one too. I first came across his music while I was bored, randomly just clicking links on Soundcloud and it paid off in a big way when I ended up on his page! His sound is never the same and he’s always messing between old school hip hop vibes and mellow Trap vibes which I think is something really different in the Aussie hip-hop scene right now that everybody should definitely check out!”

The GREMLNS Are Another Group Of Up And Comers That I Dig

“The GREMLNS have a raw and rugged style of hip hop that I think you probably don’t get a chance to hear these days unless you take your old 2pac and Biggie CD’s out. The group originally consisted of 3 artists (Kmalith, Mirakle and Lavicticus) but after releasing a music video they quickly recruited 3 new artists (La Mob$tah, Lyrical Phoenix and Phantom) and the best part is they are all still under 18, so they aren’t even close to their prime yet. They’re constantly releasing freestyle videos and collaboration tracks, so the fan base is growing quickly and with the motto of “there’s only room for improvement” chances are if you’ve already heard some of their music, one week or so later it’s nothing compared to their new stuff.”

Rookie aka RookiePro aka RookieProBeats Is A Super Producer

“If you want to hear his work you would probably have to contact him personally because he’s not that active on Soundcloud but with that being said, his instrumentals are crazy and if you’re a rapper, singer, dancer or any kind of artist that needs some music to go with your projects, you should definitely talk to him. Not only can he make beats but he can cater them to you personally, so just tell him what you need.”

I Have One More Bonus Artist…

…that I think ALL lovers of music should check out and her name is Maya Hirasedo! Her talent is on a different level! if you’re wondering why I’m thinking this way just go to her Soundcloud and check it out.
