A couple of months ago one of Australia’s favourite punk rock outfits penned a track telling our nation’s not so adored Prime Minister Tony Abbott to ‘Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face’, an attack against his controversial treatment of those seeking asylum in Australia, promising to donate a large portion of the sales to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The band stated they’d donate 100 per cent of the digital sales of the single, as well as a large portion of the 7″ record sales and since it dropped back in January the song has raised a staggering $8190.00, as the band reveal via their official Facebook.

The Smith Street Band gobsmacked with the brilliant results of the single sale thanked fans writing the following: “THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE!! By giving our “Punchable Face” single so much love, YOU just raised $8190 for asylum seeker support organisations!! What a fucking incredible result! We seriously can’t thank you enough! If you’d like to continue to support this cause, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) and the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) are two really great places to get more info!”

It’s no surprise that the four-piece were able to raise such an incredible amount of funds, they’re are a definite fan-favourite having recently rescued a punter from a violent security guard at a gig in Sydney a couple of weeks back.

The Melbourne rockers aren’t the only band to hit-out against Tony Abbott, in February we saw a two-piece emerge named Until Abbott Gets Gone who formed with the sole intention of penning anti-Abbott anthems until the current Prime Minister is out of office.
