The results of the first radio ratings survey of the year are in, offering listeners and industry members a chance to see who’s starting the new year on top, who’s expanding, and which city loves which station.

Naturally, looking over the graphs, which come courtesy of Radio Today, our eyes were immediately drawn to how our beloved Triple J are doing, particularly in the wake of the annual Hottest 100 countdown, which has traditionally given the station a boost.

First up, there’s been a marked dip in Triple J’s dominance in Perth. Their weekday share in the Western Australian capital has declines, which means Brisbane’s weekday hold of 9.7 percent is now their strongest in the country.

In Melbourne and Sydney, the Hottest 100, and the controversy surrounding this year’s in particular, let Australia’s premier youth broadcaster improve by 5.7 percent overall in Melbourne.

However, the result was not as sterling in Sydney. All demos 25+ got smashed, but the 18-24 demo achieved a monster result, with an increase of 8 percent, same as Melbourne.

So, it looks like Brisbane is the city that loves Triple J the most, standing as the station’s strongest metro market with a 0.4 percent increase on the previous survey. If you feel like getting bogged down in the numbers, check out the survey results below.
