Having established herself as one of Australia’s brightest and most talented young performers to come along in a while, Courtney Barnett is already making moves that have her poised for world domination.
As Tone Deaf previously reported, earlier this month the Tasmanian singer-songwriter was confirmed as an upcoming musical guest on US daytime talk show phenomenon Ellen.
The show’s titular host has been showing some serious love for Australian artists in the past few months, having featured performances from the likes of Sheppard and 5 Seconds of Summer.
Ellen introduced Barnett as one of her “favourite new performers”, saying, “I love her so much”, before Barnett performed a heartfelt rendition of her latest single, ‘Depreston’, an ode to the northern Melbourne suburb.

After the performance, Ellen revealed that she was sending everyone in her audience home with a copy of Barnett’s highly anticipated full-length debut, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.
For those not familiar with what a huge opportunity this would be for a swiftly rising Australian artist, Ellen is viewed by roughly 3.9 million people in the US alone each day.
What’s more, Barnett’s appearance took place on an episode that featured an interview with First Lady Michelle Obama, effectively making it one of the biggest episodes of the year, ensuring thousands more were tuning in.
Having spent 2014 endlessly touring, including spots at numerous prestigious festivals like Glastonbury, the release of Barnett’s debut album is sure to make her a household name both at home and abroad.
