For anyone that’s ever had their parents complain that they spend way too much time listening to music, going to record stores and concerts, and not enough time doing basically anything else, this note’s for you.

Brother Mike Cohen is a music industry professional from Buffalo, New York who got his start in music as a bedroom slacker mindlessly collecting vinyl records and copies of Rolling Stone magazine, much to the chagrin of his conservative parents.

When he was 12, Mike decided to start recording his parents as they complained about his lackadaisical attitude towards life. It bears noting that Cohen’s dad was a Jewish Republican World War II veteran with a short temper.

The recordings continued for another 16 years. 30 years after his first recording, which features Mike’s parents interrupting a sweet Rolling Stones jam, his friend animated it and the results are highly entertaining, and for us at Tone Deaf, very nostalgic.

Of course, Cohen gets some good gloating in at the end there. The clip ends with a montage of Cohen next an array of music superstars, including Bono, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, KISS, Black Francis, and more.
