While Tone Deaf has extensively covered the ubiquitous presence of police drug searches at music festivals around the country, it’s relatively rare that you see cops targeting punters going in to see a gig.

It’s even rarer to see them targeting the artists themselves, backstage whilst a gig is happening, but that’s exactly what recently happened to Sydney group The Lulu Raes when they were supporting Sticky Fingers at the Enmore Theatre.

During what was an otherwise momentous occasion for the band, who were supporting one of the stops on Sticky Fingers’ sold-out national tour, Lulu Raes frontman Eddie Burton was reportedly searched for drugs by cops backstage.

“Eddie being searched for drugs in the greenroom of the Enmore Theatre,” the band captioned the picture. “Big gig supporting Stickies, lucky he’s a good boy,” the band wrote on Facebook, accompanied by a photo of Burton apparently speaking with the two officers.

“Obviously we had nothing to hide, but you still don’t expect to find police in your dressing room,” the band have since told The Music. The band’s fans apparently agreed, posting harsh criticisms of the two officers’ conduct.

Luckily, the band’s performance went off without a hitch and the band will next take the stage in Sydney as part of the fifth annual Bad Friday event at the Vic On The Park Hotel on Good Friday, 3rd April.
