There’s nothing in Australia quite like the ultimate experience of live music, music and ideas like Sydney’s Vivid LIVE. Taking place from 22nd May – 8th June, the epic event takes complete control of the Harbour city, artists of all ranks and sizes displaying and performing in and around streets and venues.

One of the major drawcards of Vivid that pulls live music lovers of Australia to Sydney is the plethora of musical talent that organisers books exclusively for the festival.

As the programme is quite extensive, we decided to piece together a handy guide to the eight incredible events that you can only experience at Vivid Sydney 2015.

An Evening With Morrissey

Where? The Sydney Opera House
When? 26th – 31st May
Why? One of the greatest lyricists of pretty much ever, with a moaning croon that cannot be matched, Morrissey is one of music’s most adored characters. Forever provocative, the the 55-year old icon will be charming the hearts of fans at The Sydney Opera house for four nights, performing songs from his bold solo catalogue like ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ not to mention countless hits from the untouchable arsenal of The Smiths enter: ‘How Soon Is Now?’.  Let’s be perfectly honest, if there was one act to see at Vivid, nay, in 2015 – Morrissey would be one of them.

10 Years Of Future Classic

Where? The Sydney Opera House
When? 29th & 30th May
Why? What do you do for a birthday? Throw a party, and for the legends behind revered Sydney label Future Classic, that’s exactly what’s goin’ down in the most grandiose of venues, The Opera House. Spread over two nights (so you’ll need to pack your stamina and best recovery methods), this epic shindig is headlined by Aussie dance prince, Flume (only Aus 2015 show) as well as Flight Facilities, Seekae, Wave Racer, Hayden James, George Maple, Touch Sensitive, and Charles Murdoch. It doesn’t get better than this.

Heaps Gay Presents Black Vanilla

Where? The Factory Theatre, 105 Victoria Road, Marrickville
When? 7th June
Why? What better way to enjoy the Queen’s Birthday long weekend then by shakin’ your ass to some of the finest DJs and producers in the country. The guys at Heaps Gay are hosting a killer day and night of music and art, with the likes of KIM (The Presets DJ set), Black Vanilla (DJ set), TEES (Live), Catlips (Live, Perth), Divine Knights (Live) and more performing, not to mention visual displays from respected artists including No Lights No Lycra, Bubble Rave, Hissy Fit and so many more.

Sufjan Stevens’ Only Australia Shows

Where? The Sydney Opera House
When? 22nd- 25th May
Why? In case you missed it, the incredibly gifted folkster turn electronica turned back folkster, Sufjan Stevens’ forthcoming record Carrie & Lowell has been streaming online, critics and fans alike agreeing that it’s finest work to date. Stevens will be placing Sydney under his spell in a four-night stand, performing both old and new tunes.

Daniel Johns Premieres Solo Effort

Where? The Sydney Opera House
When? 28 – 29th May
Why? After dropping his accalimed debut solo EP Aerial Love, Aussie rock ‘n roll royalty Daniel Johns will at longlast please fans in his first ever solo performance. Held over two nights, Johns’ futuristic R&B sounds will resounding from the walls of the Opera House. This is a huge point in his career and is unquestionably one of the most highly anticipated live shows this year.

The Evolution Of The Hoodoo Gurus

When? 23rd May
Why? Adored rockers The Hoodoo Gurus have undergone many a facelift in their time, the Sydney outfit having featured a tonne of talented musicians work to produce consistently brilliant new wave and rock. To celebrate the life and times of the Aussie band and all that they’ve given, for one very special night only Vivid will see the original lineup, as well as those that joined along the way perform songs from the band’s discography, taking punters on a journey from the beginning until present day Hoodoo Gurus.

Silent Disco At Central Park

Where? Central Park, 28 Broadway, Chippendale
When? 22nd May – 6th June
Why? Don’t have any cash to splash but still want to join in on the Vivid fun? No sweat, there’s plenty of options for you too. Taking place over six days, everyone’s favourite and kinda weird party, Silent Disco, will see hundreds of music fans dance with headphones on in Central Park.

Modulations: A Kooky Motorik Pelvis Party

Where? Carriageworks, 245 Wilson St, Eveleigh
When? 7th June
Why? Modulations is bringing together three of Sydney’s best club nights across three rooms and featuring an array of international acts including Trevor Jackson , Daniel Wang with plenty more groovin’ artists to be announced.
