You never know who has a musical past, just this week we reviewed Chopper Read’s hiphop record (yep, that exists) and now as it turns out, one of our favourite actors too had a history in music, and his work is going to be put on an indie record label.

Ben Stiller apparently used to be in a punk rock outfit by the name of Capital Punishment and according to Stereogum, NYC super-hip label Captured Tracks the crew with the likes of Mac DeMarco and DIIV on their roster are releasing the band’s stuff.

Back in the ’80s Stiller used to man the stool, beating the skins for one whole album entitled Roadkill. Despite being released back in 1982, songs from the record appeared on YouTube in 2014 which didn’t garner a whole stack of love, however we don’t think the songs are that bad.

The tune ‘Delta Time’ has drawn comparisons from Foxygen to Captain Beefheart and is rather fitting for Captured Tracks. It has a very primitive feel to it, pertaining to a very ’70s and ’80s DIY a la Flying Nun / The Clean kind of vibe.

Captured Tracks haven’t detailed exactly when or in what format they’ll be releasing Capital Punishment’s RoadKill however we’re pretty keen to give this full record a spin when it finally appears.

For now, hear Stiller chat to Howard Stern about his music career and give the ultra cool ‘Delta Time’ and ‘RoadKill’ a listen all below:
