Two of the most acclaimed and powerful rock and roll entities in Australia have announced that they’re going their own way and hitting the road for a massive, seven-date tour, which will see two of the country’s most loved female-fronted rock bands hitting up venues around the country.

[include_post id=”440485″]The tour is set to kick off in Baby Animals frontwoman Suze DeMarchi’s hometown of Perth on Friday, 22nd May, before powering on to Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney, and Brisbane, followed by Superjesus frontlady Sarah McLeod’s hometown of Adelaide, with Sandy Bay, Tasmania the last pit stop on what’s been dubbed the She Who Rocks Tour.

DeMarchi and McLeod have been friends for years, but have never actually played the same bill before, so this has been a long time coming, with many fans eager to finally see two of Australia’s most dynamic and explosive frontwomen share the same stage to play through their biggest hits.

To celebrate the impressive upcoming tour, we chatted to Superjesus’ Sarah McLeod, and Baby Animals’ Suze DeMarchi about who they consider to be the most inspiration women in history.

Suzi Quatro

“Suzi was the first of her kind, a tough talking, driven creative energy who could play a mean bass. She knew what she wanted and she went for it with tunnel vision. She had no female role models because there was no women rock starts who played bass at this time. She modelled herself on Elvis and gave it her own twist.

Like most people my age, I discovered Suzi on Happy Days. I was obsessed with the Fonz when i was a kid and when Leather Tuscadero came on the scene i saw her as a female Fonz and it blew my mind. I never connected with Pinky Tuscadero but Leather… that was a different story!

She inspired me in many ways, firstly I love her boldness, her confidence, her ability to be brazen yet off the cuff , she is so commanding when she yells ‘Come on boys give it up one more time for Suzi’ . Her strength and absolutely fearlessness. And most of all her longevity, to go through the ebbs and flows of success and failure in the music business and still remain on top of her personal game, she is like the Duracel bunny.” –  Sarah McLeod

Deborah Harry

“A former playboy bunny that became the epitome of new wave cool. She had the ability to have the crowd in her hand without doing a thing. She was so la Say Fair in her mannerisms it was like she was up the eyeballs on valium but it made her so appealing. Her band Blondie had some great songs and she was the first vocalist to record a rap in the song ‘rapture’.

I think Heart Of Glass was the first song i heard of Blondie, i would have been around 8 when i heard that on the radio. It was a disco sensation and i loved it!

She’s inspired me with the hits, lots of hits. I know a lot of this is down to working with my heart Mike Chapman but she was the one delivering them to my ears and there songs had so many hooks.”  – Sarah McLeod

Chrissie Amphlett

“She was a one of a kind performer that didn’t fit into any mould of her predecessors. Unlike Debbie Harry she had ‘all the wrong stuff ‘ that it took to be a woman in the business. She wasn’t polite, she wasn’t particularly pretty (although incredibly alluring) and had buck teeth. She had a voice that was so distinctly hers but very very different. She was hard to pigeon hole and thats what made her special. I don’t remember when i discovered her, i feel like Ive always known her.

I love her ability for not caring what others thought, she had balls bigger than any man around her. She was a great lyricst and a fantastic singer, and like all good creative types… she never gave up.” – Sarah McLeod

Audrey Hepburn

“She was talented, beautiful, kind hearted and selfless. She did so much in her work and for humanity.

Like everyone else, I discovered her through her films. To have half her grace and poise, you would be doing really well” – Suze DeMarchi

Bethany Hamilton

“She lost her arm in a shark attack but she continues to surf competitively. I mean just to get back in the water? What a brave woman.

I discovered her once I read about her, and was mesmerised by her tenacity.

She’s inspired me to remember to always get back on the horse…..never give up on your dreams.” – Suze DeMarchi

Bonnie Raitt

“She’s the ultimate chick singer – equal to any male in her field.

I discovered her in my youth but I’ve recently rediscovered her. She’s so inspiring because she’s still going strong and sounding better than ever.” – Suze DeMarchi
