Tribute albums are a dime a dozen and rarely have they done much more than magnify the brilliance of the original artist, but hey, we can live in hope and the forthcoming tribute album to Dame David Bowie has some pretty impressive artists on the track listing. Entitled We Were So Turned On, the 2 CD set is out on September 6th and encompasses vast swathes of his long career, although funnily enough no-one had the balls to cover a song by his much derided-because-they-were-shit proto-grunge band, Tin Machine. Alas the slated inclusion of tracks by MGMT and Soulwax didn’t eventuate due to ‘scheduling issues’, however the contributions are pretty impressive. Carla Bruni, French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s model/actress turned chanteuse wife gets extra street cred for covering ‘Absolute Beginners’. The tracklisting runs:
