For many, 1st April is a day like any other – you can’t believe anything you read in your Facebook feed and your friends are constantly trying to pull pranks on you and fool you. For others, it’s a day of endless mirth and revelry.

We must say we probably subscribe to the latter sentiment. In fact, we even played our own April Fool’s Day prank on our readers yesterday (yeah, sorry about that one, but aren’t we all relieved that sniffer drones aren’t real?).

We weren’t the only ones in the music world enjoying the festivities, either. Bands, musicians, and even music schools around the world all got in on the fun and we’ve highlighted a few of our favourite pranks of the day here.

In Hearts Wake Shreds

By all accounts, In Hearts Wake were one of the highlights of this year’s inaugural UNIFY Gathering. However, one look at their recent live video for ‘Skydancer’ and you’re left to wonder why. That is, of course, until you realise that the group have taken a tongue-in-cheek stab at themselves by creating a ‘shreds’ video of their UNIFY Gathering performance.

For those playing catch up, a ‘shreds’ clip is footage of a popular band performing live that’s been edited to sound as though the band is… well, not the band we know. Just check out In Hearts Wake’s take on the popular video meme below.

Sydney Uni Double Teams Memes Its Student Body

Sydney Uni may have pulled off one of the slickest and most noteworthy pranks of April Fool’s 2015. It wasn’t an elaborate and overly complicated prank, just a simple Facebook post that shape-shifted and led students down the primrose path to getting trolled, or should we say rolled?

OK, we’ve caved to popular demand; we’re going to (attempt) to blast out Darude’s ‘Sandstorm’ on the Carillon at 1pm today! Here’s our sneaky rehearsal yesterday: http://bit.ly/1BJSatP

Tool Are Really, Really Mean

Tool playing an April Fool’s Day prank is nothing new, nor is joking about new music, as guitarist Adam Jones found out when an off-the-cuff quip to a fan at a meet-and-greet resulted in reports that a new tour album was forthcoming.

However, with recent reports that the band’s much-publicised legal troubles were over and they would soon be getting back to recording their long-awaited fifth studio album, their outrage over the “leak” of “new music” was just mean on so many levels.

Berklee College of Music Introduces A Kazoo Curriculum

Not unlike Sydney University, Berklee College of Music in Boston, widely considered one of the best music schools in the world, played their own prank on students by announcing that they would soon be able to participate in a new course centred on perhaps the most important music instrument there is – the kazoo.

Papa Roach Announce The Double-Bill We’ve Been Waiting For

Papa Roach, best known for their 2000 hit ‘Last Resort’ and for being the last band that would ever to tour with Meghan Trainor, gave fans of both artists a good chuckle by announcing that they would soon be embarking on a double-header tour with the pop songstress, aptly titled the F.E.A.R. That Bass Tour.

YouTube Gets Hit By A Sandstorm

While we frankly think the whole Darude ‘Sandstorm’ thing has kind of been run into the ground, we still gotta give props to YouTube for this one. It certainly made us chuckle. Right now, if you search for any song on YouTube… well, see for yourself.

Well Played, Sam Smith

Nothing fancy. UK crooner Sam Smith just took to Twitter for a simple and chuckle-worthy April Fool’s Day message to fans, which has since garnered more than 53,000 retweets and has been favourites more than 63,000 times.
