James Brown may have invented it, but George Clinton is the man who made funk what it is today. As the creative leader of Parliament-Funkadelic and with a formidable solo career of his own, Clinton gave funk its sound, its look, its style, and its legacy.

The funkiest man in the galaxy recently touched down in Australia to perform with Parliament-Funkadelic as part of this weekend’s Byron Bay Bluesfest. However, before he heads for the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, Clinton will be doing a very special signing at Northside Records in Melbourne.

“Oohwee! George Clinton will be dropping into Northside Records for an in-store signing on Thursday, 2nd April at 5pm,” reads a statement from the store, which is located at 236 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. “Don’t miss your chance to meet a real live living legend.”

A legend in every sense of the word, Clinton has influenced countless generations of musicians, including everyone from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dr Dre, to techno pioneers like Derrick Carter and modern heroes like Kendrick Lamar, who asked Clinton to appear on his latest album.

“Bring your records and have them signed, bring your children and have them signed… bring whatever! We will have a limited supply of P-Funk classics for sale – but they won’t last long. Nasty!” Northside’s owners continue.

So if you want to shake hands with one of the most legendary men in modern music, head on down to Northside Records at 236 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy in Melbourne at 5pm. Best be early to avoid the rush and make sure you bring the funk!
