Comprised of twin brothers Jack and Pat, multi-instrumentalists Pierce Brothers honed their chops on the streets of Melbourne, becoming fixtures on the busy Bourke Street Mall strip where their busking antics regularly draw crowds in the dozens.

Their skills for attracting listeners and obvious songwriting talents have seen them sell out rooms from England to the Netherlands and they were recently hand-picked by ARIA award winner Dan Sultan as supports for his latest national tour.

Their success doesn’t stop there, however. The boys recently sold out a record five shows in their hometown of Melbourne and have graced the stages of many major festivals across Europe and Australia, where they’ve received rave receptions.

However, what’s perhaps most impressive about the duo is that they just so happen to have a gold record to their names, though it’s not official. As the Herald Sun notes, having busked their way around the world, Jack and Pat have managed to move an incredible 43,000 CDs.

According to the Australian Recording Industry Association’s own rules, an artist must sell 35,000 units of a single or album before they can gain a gold certification. However, since the copies were sold direct to their fans, they don’t get the trophy.

It’s unlikely to dampen the spirits of the 26-year-old twins, who recently signed with major label Warner as well as Free Trade Agency in the UK, home to stars like Ed Sheeran, The War On Drugs, and St Vincent.

“We were understandably worried about signing any deal,” Pat told News Corp. We didn’t quite know exactly what it would entail. Our manager said not to sign with anyone who wasn’t jumping up and down … and while we had a lot of interest, we felt most comfortable with Warner.”

“However, being a major label, it’s quite intimidating. Since working with them on our new tunes it has been amazing!” In the meantime, the pair have a plan to ensure the sales keep on coming. They’re releasing a special Australian tour edition of their The Night Tree EP.

“We wanted to give something to our fans before we release the EP in winter. We basically want to say thank you because it’s been a while between new songs and they’ve given us such a huge life in music,” said Pat. The EP will only be available for purchase at upcoming shows.

“These shows will have a little taster of the new EP and upcoming album and maybe some extra bits and pieces on it.” However, according to Pat, no amount of sales beats actually seeing fans respond to your music during a live performance.

“Walking out on stage in the Netherlands at the Lowlands Festival for our first ever European gig was mind blowing,” he said. “We had an audience of about 8000-10,000 people and just couldn’t believe when people started to sing the words.”
