Fans of the obscure, the eclectic, and the avant-garde, rejoice! The organisers of Dark Mofo have finally announced the triumphant return of Hobart’s favourite arts, music, and culture festival, and what’s more, Dark Mofo 2015 looks to be one of their strongest lineups yet.

This year, Hobart’s historic Odeon Theatre will host a deliciously dark music program, featuring Australian-exclusive performances of award-winning British singer Antony and the Johnsons, who’ll be performing with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

There’ll also be appearances from British art-pop collective The Irrepressibles, acclaimed Arkansas doom outfit Pallbearer, electro-conducting Japanoise-maker EYE, Rhode Island sludge metal duo The Body, Drones founder Gareth Liddiard, and one-woman performance vocalist Kusum Normoyle.

Also look out for Seattle’s own King Dude, Melbourne’s theatrical chanteuse Brous, dark electronic artist Jake Blood, German industrial occultists Oake, Melbourne’s beloved My Disco, smoky chillwave from Melbourne’s Klo, odd pop from Hobart’s Tiger Choir, and Sydney hit-makers The Preatures.

Last year, Dark Mofo attracted more than 130,000 people to events across 10 days in Hobart. This year will see the annual event spreading its tentacles into new spaces around Tasmania, featuring performances from around 250 artists hailing from a dozen different countries around the world.

“With the third iteration of Dark Mofo, we are pushing ourselves to the limit with a program that will challenge, disturb, excite, and hopefully enlighten our audience in some small way,” said Dark Mofo Creative Director Leigh Carmichael.

“We are expanding into a new precinct at Hobart’s harbourside Macquarie Point, with a project called ‘Dark Park’, which will house a number of large-scale art projects that will in turn push the audience to their limits.”

Readers can check below for all the dates and details of Dark Mofo’s 2015 lineup, including its extensive arts and culture program, featuring performances, exhibitions, and installations from Marina Abramović, Unconscious Collective, and more. Tickets for Dark Mofo 2015 are on sale 10am AEDT Monday, 20th April.
