A dispute over loud music turned fatal last night, with the Brisbane Times reporting that a 28-year-old man has been charged with the manslaughter of his neighbour following a fight in the front yard of a home in Brisbane’s north.

Police were called to a home in Boondall at about 10.30pm Thursday evening. The 55-year-old victim died of head injuries understood to have been inflicted by a single punch thrown during a scuffle, allegedly sparked by loud music.

Police reportedly found the victim unconscious on the front lawn when they arrived. Attempts by police and paramedics to revive that 55-year-old were unsuccessful and he died at the scene. He was pronounced deceased around 11pm.

“We’re calling on anyone that may have witnessed the event to come forward and assist police with inquiries,” Queensland Police Inspector Dan Bragg said. According to Inspector Bragg, there was no weapon suspected in the incident.

He said the man’s death was a reminder that even one punch can kill. “It’s obviously a tragic incident enveloping two neighbours,” he said. “Obviously there’s been a dispute that has escalated to the point where police arrive and find an unconscious male.”

The 28-year-old neighbour was arrested at the scene. According to a Queensland Police media release, the man has been charged with one count of manslaughter and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

A crime scene remains in place at the home on Muller Road, with police cordoning off the area as homicide detectives continue to investigate. Police say there were no witnesses to the fight and are urging anyone who saw anything to contact them.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigation has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or via the official Crime Stoppers website 24 hours a day.
