With the lineup just dropping for Australia’s first ever music festival on a cruise ship, we’re going a little crazy with festival excitement here at Tone Deaf, and it appears there’s another incredibly unique live music experience for Aussies that’s thrown us into a festi-frenzy.

Meet Wide Open Space, one of Australia’s best kept music festival secrets held in the desert of Alice Springs, brought to our attention by Thump (via inthemix).

Returning for its seventh, that’s right seventh year of successful operations, Wide Open Space is held from May 1 – 3 on the hallowed grounds of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges, the festival paying respect to the Arrernte people – Traditional Owners and Custodians of the festival land.

This outback festival favours an eclectic mix of art and culture from dance all the way to world music, this year’s performers including L-Fresh The Lion, Urtekk, Whitebear and many more.

The festival is very different to many others in Australia, allowing punters to escape the hustle and bustle of city to the heartland of central Australia for an artistic, musical and spiritual journey unlike any other. Just imagine catching a live band into the wee hours of the morning, only to stumble back to your swag to sleep under the stars, followed by waking up to the surrounds of Australia’s truly wondrous unique landscapes.

Despite having ran for over half a decade, Wide Open Space has been crowned as one of Australia’s best kept secrets and a lifechanging experience that every avid music purist should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Tickets including camping are only $180.00 which can be purchased here, there are options for cabins for an additional price. Jump over to Wide Open Space for any additional festival information.
