If you’re anything like us, you make a point of regularly perusing Gumtree, even if you’re not on the lookout for tickets to a sold-out show. After all, you just never know what you might find – a used bird cage, an engineless Holden Commodore, a gig venue, the possibilities are endless. Wait… what?

Yes, as astute Adelaide Gumtree devotees may have noticed recently, there is now an opportunity to purchase your very own venue through the popular classified ads site. Guess it’s easier than selling privately or going through a realtor?

As The Music reports, Driller Jet Armstrong, the owner of Adelaide venue Sugar Nightclub, recently announced that the beloved venue was going up for sale after 13 years of trading. It now appears that Armstrong is more than willing to take (serious) offers for the business via Gumtree.

“Don’t be surprised to see the venue listed in the usual places visited by people looking to buy a business,” Armstrong reportedly wrote last week via Facebook. A since-deleted listing for the outlet said the venue had a “devoted youth following… confident security” and described it as a “celebrity hangout”.

“Contrary to popular belief Sugar has not ever been ‘for sale’ in the 13 year history of the venue. Until today that is,” Armstrong posted on Facebook last week, The Music reports. The venue has since been relisted on the infamous classifieds site.

The current listing for Sugar indicates that a price for the venue is negotiable, adding, “It’s a pretty top place. If you wish to get in on this then contact us. We’re up for sale!” If you’re interested in telling the story of how you bought a venue on Gumtree you can check out all the details here.

The reason for the sale has not been made public, but it does follow the closure of fellow Adelaide venues, HQ and Dog & Duck, earlier this year.

Since one of our readers could well be the new owner of the Sugar Nightclub in the very near future, we would like to take this opportunity to implore you to keep the venue as a music space. Please don’t raze it and turn it into a luxury hotel, that would be a total jerk move.
